World No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy advanced to the semifinals of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tennis tournament, for the second time in his professional career, after defeating American Ben Shelton, the tenth seed, in the quarterfinals, in three sets to none, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Sinner will face seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, the sixth seed, in the semifinals. Djokovic defeated fellow Italian Flavio Cobolli, the twenty-second seed, in three sets to one in the quarterfinals, 6-7, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.
The match between Sinner and Djokovic comes a month after their Roland Garros semifinal, which the Italian won in three sets.
Sinner leads Djokovic in his meetings with him, with five wins and four losses, but he has lost two grass matches to the Serb, in the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2022 and the semifinals of the same tournament in 2023.
