Authorities in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh announced that the death toll from monsoon-related disasters has risen to 78 since the start of the rainy season on June 20.
Asia News International quoted the State Disaster Management Authority on Sunday as saying that approximately 50 people were killed in accidents caused by landslides, flash floods, and heavy rainfall, while 28 others were killed in rain-related traffic accidents.
The authority stated that Mandi district recorded the highest number of deaths, with 17, followed by Kangra district with 11 deaths. It noted that the state suffered heavy losses to infrastructure, agriculture, housing, education, and health sectors.
As part of the emergency response, Indian authorities deployed teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with local units, to the affected areas. These teams are continuing search and rescue operations, especially in the Mandi and Kullu districts, where missing persons are still reported.
