Iran executed a man convicted of spying for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, the judiciary announced on Wednesday.
The judiciary's Mizan Online news agency reported, "After identifying, arresting, and conducting legal proceedings against Pedram Madani, who was spying for the Zionist entity, and after completing the judicial process and confirming the sentence by the Supreme Court, the death sentence was carried out."
It added that Madani was accused of transmitting classified information and holding meetings with Mossad agents abroad, particularly in Brussels.
The judiciary said he had traveled "to the occupied territories," a term Iranian officials use to refer to Israel, before his arrest in 2020-2021.
He was also convicted of "illicit enrichment" by receiving money in euros and Bitcoin from Israel.
The agency added that Madani was convicted of "spying for the Zionist entity's intelligence" after being charged with "enmity against God" and "corruption on earth" and was sentenced to death.
Iran, which does not recognize Israel, continues to accuse the Jewish state of carrying out covert operations within its territory, including attacks on its nuclear program and the assassination of scientists.
