US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that he had appointed Karoline Leavitt, 27, as White House spokeswoman.
Leavitt, who had been a spokeswoman for the 78-year-old Republican billionaire's campaign, will become the new face of the US executive branch.
"Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven herself to be a very effective communicator," Trump said in a statement.
This strategic position requires her to answer questions from the press on camera almost daily.
Trump added that Leavitt "did an exceptional job as the national spokesperson for my historic campaign, and I am pleased to announce that she will be the White House spokesperson."
He added that Leavitt "will excel on stage and help us deliver our message to the American people to Make America Great Again."
In Congress, Leavitt served as communications officer for Elise Stefanik, 40, a New York congresswoman whom Trump nominated for the position of US ambassador to the United Nations.
In 2022, Leavitt campaigned for the House of Representatives, hoping to become a representative from New Hampshire, but she lost.
“I didn’t grow up in a political family,” she said on a podcast on the conservative Fox News channel released Friday. “Like most Americans, I grew up in a middle-class business family here in my home state of New Hampshire. I got involved in politics in college.”
