Mark Snow, composer of the theme song for the American TV series "The X-Files," died Friday at the age of 78 in the United States, his agent announced.
The agent did not specify the circumstances of his death. According to Variety, the musician died at his home in Connecticut in the northeastern United States.
In addition to the theme song for "The X-Files," Mark Snow composed the music for more than 200 episodes of the popular American series, which revolves around two FBI investigators working on mysterious cases related to paranormal phenomena.
He also composed the music for the two feature films based on the series.
Snow, whose real name was Martin Wolterman, was born on August 26, 1946, and grew up in New York City, where he attended the prestigious Juilliard School of Music.
Mark Snow began composing music for television in the late 1970s. He was nominated 15 times for an Emmy Award, the American television equivalent of the Oscars.
