Indian authorities on Sunday found the second black box from the Boeing 787 that crashed Thursday in Ahmedabad in the country's northwest.
P.K. Mishra, a senior aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said in a statement that "the black box" recording cockpit conversations has been found. The first black box was found on Friday, the day after the crash that killed 279 people.
Only one passenger survived among the 242 people on board the Indian plane when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on Thursday, according to the latest toll released on Saturday.
Thirty-eight residents of the city were also killed when the plane exploded over a neighborhood.
"The Indian Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a detailed investigation, and the US Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting a parallel investigation since the plane is American-made," Mishra said. The British and US investigation offices announced they were sending teams to assist their Indian counterparts investigating.
Experts said it was too early to determine the cause of the disaster.
Videos of the incident circulated on social media showed the plane taking off and then plummeting after the pilot failed to gain altitude before it exploded.
On Friday, the Civil Aviation Authority ordered a "precautionary" inspection of all Boeing 787 aircraft in the Air India fleet in service, particularly the engines, wing panels, and landing gear.
