Renault intends to produce drones in Ukraine

French car manufacturer Renault plans to build a factory in Ukraine to produce drones for the Ukrainian and French armies, France Info reported Sunday.

Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced on Friday an "unprecedented partnership" in which a major French car manufacturer (...) will collaborate with a small and medium-sized French defense company to set up production lines in Ukraine capable of manufacturing drones.

Renault declined to comment on the matter to AFP.

According to France Info, which did not disclose its sources, the production lines will be "tens or hundreds of kilometers from the front line."

Sébastien Lecornu said on Friday that these drones, the model of which was not specified, will be used primarily by the Ukrainian army, "but we will also deliver them to our French armies to ensure continuous tactical and operational training in line with the reality" of the conflict in Ukraine.

This year, Ukraine plans to use more than 4.5 million drones, the most widely used weapon to destroy enemy equipment on the front lines.

The French military, which possesses thousands of drones, is seeking to make up for its lag in this field.

Lecornu believes that the Ukrainians "are superior to us in their ability to design drones."

They will also provide feedback on how they are using these drones in this war.
