Chinese electric vehicle maker Xiaomi announced it received 300,000 pre-orders in one hour for its first SUV.
Beijing-based Xiaomi launched its 100% electric SUV, the SU7, last year.
The group announced on Weibo Thursday evening that 289,000 pre-orders had been received in one hour for the YU7, its first SUV. The five-seater model starts at 253,500 yuan (€30,200).
The group's founder and CEO, Lei Jun, said he was amazed by the rush of customers.
"It's incredible. In two minutes, we received 196,000 pre-orders, of which 128,000 are final, non-refundable," he added.
The growing demand for advanced technology products comes as the government tries to encourage consumption and innovation in the hope of stimulating growth.
