Central African Republic: Seven killed, including five soldiers, in attack in northeast

Five soldiers and two civilians were killed Wednesday in an attack by unidentified gunmen in northeastern Central African Republic, according to media and local sources.

Media reported that the attack took place in Ouada, Haut-Kotto province, targeting a position of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA). Another soldier was wounded during the attack, the source added.

The same source added that the regional gendarmerie brigade in Bria, the capital of Haut-Kotto province, confirmed the attack, noting that "despite the loss of life among our forces, the attackers were repelled and the situation in the city is now under control."

It is worth noting that the Central African government signed peace agreements in N'Djamena, Chad, at the end of April with two of the five groups belonging to the main armed rebel coalition, the Alliance of Patriots for Change (APCC).

The Central African Republic is experiencing recurring violence, and despite the efforts of military and security forces, threats persist, particularly on the roads in the northwestern and eastern regions of the country.
